CMUD License |
Where can I find the CMUD license information?
That documents under what conditions I'm eligible for updates?
the cmud_license.rtf file makes no mention of this, and I cant find it anywhere within CMUD itself.
I "know" it's supposed to be something like two years but I get the sense that's not all and I can't find it spelled out anywhere. |

Yeah that's advertisement though, I was looking for details.
Is it two years from the day I purchased it or installed it?
Are there any conditions under which it might be more than or less than 2 years etc?
No doubt there's there's a collective knowledge that "knows" all this, where is it spelled out? |

Not sure where the official details are but from what I understand then it's
For 2 years after the day you purchased it then you'll be entitled to upgrades for the current major version.
If you buy it on 1/1/07 and on 31/12/08 then version 3.00 is released then even up to v3.99 you'll be entitled to upgrades
What I'm not sure about would be if say 3.0 beta were released on 31/12/08 then 3.01 public were released on 02/01/09 then if you'd still get the upgrades because the beta was released within your license window |

As far as I'm aware, there's nowhere that this is set in stone because it isn't set in stone. Zugg spoke in a recent post about how he hasn't decided exactly when people will stop being eligible for updates - whether beta versions will be available, but not public ones, for example.

If beta versions were "free" if you have a previous license I would probably be stuck in beta , as I always tend to use the beta version if available. |

I can understand Zugg wanting some room to manoeuvre, but surely there has to be some minimum guarantee of service spelled out somewhere?
What is one purchasing when one buys the product CMUD? |

The "minimum guarantee of service" is that you'll never need to pay anything within a 2 year period. After the 2 year period has expired, then you might need to pay an upgrade cost at a future date.

Thanks for the info Zugg.
Maybe you can add that to the cmud_license.rtf file or somewhere else that makes sense :) |
