That is correct. #STWIN and #ST create string values, not full scripts. For example, you cannot use a #command in a status bar or window item. You'll notice that the editor for the status item is a plain editor and not the script editor (no line numbers, etc). So it's more like changing the value of a variable (which also doesn't have syntax highlighting) vs writing a script. Only scripts have syntax highlighting.
