CMUD Dictionary

Is there any way to modify it or have it pull from the same one that Microsoft Office uses?

Yes you can purchase the Addict 3.5 PlusPack for $49 and then play with the dictionaries. Yes you can use the same one as MS which can easily be edited by hand as it is one line per word.

You can add any word that the spell checker says is misspelled by right clicking it and clicking add to dictionary. You can also open the spell checker and create .adu files for each session.

In options you can also select custom dictionaries that you have created for Word they have .dic extensions and can be edited in word.

They amount to a text file with one word per line.

I'm trying to look into ways to get more adm files for it as well.

It's just horribly incomplete so I figured I might add Word's dictionary to it so that it could be a bit more complete.

Ok, I have done a little research into this and have found two alternatives.

First we can ask Zugg to update the american.adm file that he distributes with Cmud.
The software company has an updated version that is free to download and use if you are using their software.

Old file info.
Title: English

8/13/2004 - 11:49

Words: 94664
Nodes: 36534

New file info.
Title: English

11/30/2006 - 14:44

Words: 98472
Nodes: 38670

You can go to their site and download the new file yourself as well, only I suspect that you would have to replace this file each time you update Cmud.

http://www.addictivesoftware.com/dicts.htm

Or you could go to the trouble of finding a custom dictionary for another program.
I found a plugin for Firefox and past its library into a custom word dictionary.
Then told word to use that dictionary. THEN Cmud acknowledged that the dictionary existed.

So I suggest going and getting the newer file from Addictive Software.
They also have files for other languages on their site including British and Aussie versions of English.
