Suggestion for CMapper |
This is merely a suggestion, I realize the task of which could be overwhelming, heavy, or not practical. But I'll suggest it anyways.
A lot of Muds already have detailed maps of their areas available on line. Like... http://www.dsl-mud.org/algoron/maps2/maps/icewall/blackwood.txt
It would be neat if the code somehow look at such maps, perhaps with input and description from the user, and translate them into a CMapper format map. Also, reverse transcription from this would be easier and would go nicely along with this idea or on it's on, i.e. turning your CMapper maps into readable text maps that could be posted online.
Great program. |

Since maps like this could come in practically any format, it'd be next to impossible to write something generic for them. You could write a script yourself to parse that txt file, though.
You can use keyboard creation to make maps quickly, though, they just won't include the room names until you walk through. |

Well, the pseudo code I was thinking of would require lots of user input. Cues, if you will.
North/South = |
East/West = - or =
Other text = name
etc... some formats simply aren't as simply and would likely fail. But, like I said, it's a difficult concept. I hardly expect it, but it could be neat. |

The formats you posted are far from simple since I suspect that although there are multiple of those characters between rooms on the map there is only one direction command needed while on the MUD.

It is not impossible but very next to. Things like this would cause problems
| Code: |
An Immense------------A Dark-------A Vague Trail
Cavern--------------Cavern-------Before A Cave |
They really should have only put one line worth of dashes there as was done on the rest of the map. Examining it I actually have to think about what is meant there; and that means it would be much harder to write a script capable of handling it. I would expect there are other flaws in the provided maps and any programming that proceeds through a flawed portion will generate every further room flawed. |

Oh well, seemed like a good idea.
