Loggin with Ansi Colors

Hello,
I've logged many mud sessions using Ansi Colors, but now when I look at the logs they're like this:
16.04 | |Robert (35)] (29%)/(54%[2780/5058]) [411/114]>
16.04 | Robert steals your energy.
16.04 | Robert hurts you.
16.04 | You scorch Robert with your fire shield.

How can I see the codes interpreted? Cmud comes with an interpreter for this?

What you are seeing are the actually ANSI codes that indicate color. I think they do show up when you view the logs in CMUD, but I'm not 100% sure. There's also some discussion/scripts that talk about converting ANSI logs to HTML.

There are many many programs floating around that will display ANSI colour codes. Have a google.

I tried a few google searches but all I could come up with are horrible old dos editors for windows.

The only option that works well for me at the moment is to use putty, cygwin, and bash to open a local terminal and just cat the log files. This is a very sub par option however.

Does anyone have a nice editor/viewer that can display ansi codes?

Is there a reason we can not just open a log file directly in cmud? It obviously already can display everything inside of one, it seems like it would be simple to add such an option. I swear I remember a log view being included in zmud but I am not 100% sure on that.

Open the Editor window (CTRL-SHIFT-ENTER was a shortcut for it) I am pretty sure it allows you to load a file there.

The editor in CMUD does't read this:
16.04 | |Robert (35)] (31%)/(54%[2778/5058]) [411/94]>
16.04 | You steal Robert's energy.
16.04 | You hurt Robert.
We need an ANSI parser.

When you use the File/Open option in the CMUD editor, you need to be sure to choose the File-Type option in the open dialog to select ANSI files. Then it should load.

However, there is a bug in the current version of CMUD that will prevent it from recognizing the ESC[0S codes properly. These codes were supposed to be removed from the log file, so any ANSI viewer will have trouble with them.

That worked great!

A couple of things that helped me. First if you can not see the drop down in the file select dialog, clicking in it and using the arrow key will change it.

Second, if like me you play with a black background (I think this is even the default) you will want to change the editor to match that so your log files are easy to read. To do this go into the general settings, click on styles, and then select Text Editor from the general category. Click on the little color square next to background color and text color to pick black and white respectively.

Enjoy reading your logs in full color glory =)

I tried changing the background colour before loading my logs with the format->text colour menu, but the foreground colour overrode the background colour I chose. Thanks for that tip.

Is there an option to display the BOLD items in Highlight mode instead of bold in the Editor? I suggest this to be added as a new feature if it isn't available. Would be perfect then. Full color glory. Hehe
