cMUD Map Access Problem |
When I try to open a map (imported from zMUD), I get an Error in cMUD.exe. It says the <map name>.ini. access is denied. I can continue with my session and the map status load bar goes to about 80% and hangs indefinitely. The map never comes up but if I close the app and reopen it (the whole app, not just the map) when I reopen it, the map comes up. How can I fix that?
Cheers,

What version of Windows are you using? Are you an administrator?
What is the path to the folder where you are keeping your map? |

I just bought a new computer so the latest version of Vista Home Professional. I am the administrator. I had the maps on a CD still, the one from the transfer of the old compter when I typed the original problem. I have since copied them into my cMUD directory that has my specific MUD. I have not rebooted the machine or cMUD since I moved them. The problem persists.

Check for the read-only flag on the map files you copied from the CD. It is common for this flag to occur when copying from a read-only source.

Okay, there are four files for the map I am trying to open, the ini, the db, the zfg and the bak.zfg. The map I am trying to access is called Sybarus. When I tried to open it, it says the map 'Bazaar.ini' has denied me access. So I unchecked read only on all those files as well but I still get the access denied.

Make sure you put it in Documents\My Games\CMUD\ and not Program Files\CMUD - CMUD needs to open it in read-write mode and can't do that on Vista even if you have an administrator account.

I think that is my problem. I will move it there and see if that works. Thank you all.

Yeah, Vista's really annoying like this. Admin accounts aren't really admin accounts, but then can be admin accounts when they need to be. One of the side-effects of that is that by default, programs can't write to the Program Files directory (but they can to any other directory, which is a bit retarded - all a malicious app has to do is install somewhere else). That's why CMUD stores things it's going to need to write as well as read in My Documents.
