A faster way?

As much as I love CMUD, one functionality I would love to see is a faster map load. Perhaps that'll be implemented once the cMapper is fully fuctional. However, for the moment, it takes approximately 20-30 seconds to fully load my maps (250+ zones, over 27k rooms). A big map, yes, but I'm sure there's a better way to load it without taking so long. It also halts CMUD because it'll show the dialog of "Loading exits..." and whatnot. But just a wish, I suppose.

I'd say that 20-30 seconds is pretty darned good for a map of over 27k rooms!

My (obvious) suggestion is a faster processor and more RAM. Wink

This might be addressed when the mapper is rewritten later this year to use SQLite instead of Microsoft ADO/MDAC. I have found that SQLite is *much* faster in many cases, so it's possible this will result in a faster mapper. But nothing is going to happen until the rewrite. For now you'll just have to blame Microsoft since all the mapper is doing is loading data from the *.MDB Microsoft Access file into memory.

Have you compressed lately? That can get you the best speed tweak you'll probably get out of the entire thing.
