Paths Won't Work For Me |
Someone please explain why my paths will not work. When I open up Speedwalk paths from the Actions menu, it says to highlight path and hit enter or use one of the buttons. Well I do that and it just sends everything to the screen, not as directions, but just like it is shown in the path such as "j12e2je7n2ej4ejnjel3ej11ele". Thats exactly how it sends the entire thing to the screen. I had like 30 paths I copied from Zmud and nothing works. I even recorded new ones and it does the same damn thing. What am I doing wrong?

You need to add the English Directions package to your session. It should be there by default, but it would seem that something caused it not to be enabled.

It is already. I checked that.

First thing I would check is to be sure that the period is set and enabled in the special characters settings for Movement Char.

It is. It doesn't show a period in the paths though. Even when I record it brand new it doesn't.

So what happens when you just type:
.j12e2je7n2ej4ejnjel3ej11ele
on the command line? Does it work then? If so, then check the name of the path. For example, if the above path is assigned to the name "mypath", then try typing
.mypath
on the command line to see if that works. There aren't any bugs in the speedwalk system in v2.18 that I am aware of and I use paths all the time. |

Okay I tried on the command line.
I entered the path:
.k4w4k2hwkw
Text sent to the MUD was:
sw
4w4k2hwkw
Again with the example previously used the result was:
ne
12e2je7n2ej4ejnjel3ej11ele
It is still not interpreting the path correctly. As soon as it hits a number it sends the entire path value at once. |

I did a clean install and it works now when I enter from command line. However, it still won't work from the Actions menu. It still sends the whole path as soon as it hits a number.

I know what happened with this. I had the map open on follow...

Sorry to bump this too...but is this normal behavior that you cannot use PATHS with the mapper on follow? It probably is, but I want to make sure since I have rarely ever used the mapper even while using zMUD.

No, this isn't normal behavior. I have the mapper in Follow mode all the time when I use my paths on Aardwolf. So it's probably something specific to your mapper configuration.

Any ideas on what it could be? I would really love to start using the mapper and taking advantage of things I can do with it. I have the prompt tagged and all the lines that show up when you walk through a doorway, such as "You pass through an open door" to #nomap. However, for some reason when I enter a path with the mapper on follow it does the above reported behavior, even when I open an entirely new map with a fresh install. Also even after reconfiguring the mapper it STILL records the "You pass through an open door" as the room name sometimes...

It's probably related to any scripts that you are using to override the default mapper behavior (such as #TAGs, etc). I don't have anything fancy like that in my map...I'm using the mapper configuration generated by the normal mapper config wizard. I do have several #NOMAP triggers, so that shouldn't be any problem.
Also, I remember some previous posts from you that mentioned you are playing on an IRE MUD with ATCP. That might also cause problems. Someone else playing on an IRE MUD would have to post some help for that and mention if they are able to speedwalk.
Unfortunately, I really can't help a lot with mapper problems on CMUD. The mapper desperately needs the rewrite later this year to better support the CMUD architecture, and a lot of stuff will be fixed then.
But maybe someone else will have some suggestions. |
