Package Library Request |
I have had considerable trouble when using the package library to upload or to update my package.
Downloading someone else's package hasn't been a problem.
No I cannot list specific steps but here are a few things that have occurred.
When I log in to the library and try to upload a package for the first time. Inevitably the package gets named incorrectly or it shows up named correctly but it is actually someone else's package! Upon the second try, provided I managed to get the library to agree that the foobared package is my package and it should be deleted when I say so, it May be my package but now any information I entered into details or category etc is deleted. Upon the 3rd of fourth try the package seems to take the information...
Added to the above my HashSet package vanished a couple of days ago from the library. While I admit is is possible that I accidentally deleted it I don't recall going through the normal fight with the interface that is usually required to accomplish this and I certainly did not intend to do so. This of course necessitated my fighting the system again to put it back in.
In effect I'm asking if anyone else can reproduce exact steps or have had similar woes when dealing with the library. I know Zugg cannot fix anything based on my rant but as I grumbled in another thread and was prompted to start a new one to explain my problems. |

Is your Package Library up to date when you start doing these things? I recall earlier on, I think in CMUD 1.xx Beta I saw this behavior, but it was because my library was not up to date and some references seemed to get out of sync.

By up to date you mean synchronized
I was under the impression that I was getting a new list from the server each time I opened the library editor or at the very least that it should not matter as I was putting something in not taking it out. And by the time the information is wrong in the library I didn't want to destroy my package by synchronizing it up with the foobared one.
So no my library was not synchronized. |

No, the package library never automatically contacts the server (nor does the help system). You always need to click the Get Updates button yourself to get the latest data. Doing this automatically just slows down CMUD and causes unnecessary traffic on our server.

Perhaps a popup asking if you want to check for updates? It's likely that anyone who didn't open the package library by accident is going to want to see the latest version, so the only unnecessary traffic will be from people who opened it without wanting to do anything in the library.

No, I hate popups like that. It's easy enough for people who want the latest version to just click the Get Updates button. Besides, I want it to be consistent, and this is the way updates for the Help window and the MUD Connector List also work.
