Database Rewrite

I've had all sorts of problems with the current database system. A bunch of weird stuff has happened, like records getting written to the wrong database, records getting duplicated in a database, triggers working differently based on what I have open in the database window, etc. So I was happy to see this:

Quote:
Database module

The database module in CMUD is exactly the same as the one used in zMUD. A major rewrite of the database module to turn it into a real SQL database system is planned. It's possible that this will be done as a new add-on (like zMapper) where you get basic functionality within CMUD but have to buy the database add-on to receive a full standalone program that can edit your databases offline.

It will be based upon the database components used in zApp, which support ADO, MySQL, SQL Server, SQLite, Oracle, DB2, Sybase, Interbase/Firebird, and more. The database module in CMUD will probably use SQLite by default, but you will be able to use these other formats as needed.

But when will it be done?

At some time in the future. I believe the next priority is an upgrade to the mapper, which is in higher demand than a database upgrade. Unfortunately, Zugg only has one pair of hands, so things that the most people want come first.

Zugg can't afford to hire somebody at his current profit level. Contrary to what most customers believe, Zugg is not swimming in money. I'm amazed that he's been able to carve a living out of mudding.

Zugg hired someone in the past when ZMud was still a youngster. I don't recall the accounting of the tale, but I think this person ended up writing exceptionally bad code or failed to complete or made off with his code or something. He's been kinda spooked about hiring anyone else because of that.

There're substantial barriers to using a development team, even a team of two, as opposed to a single person, as well. There're many tools that're required to aid collaboration that simply aren't needed when it's only one person, and those tools are pretty much the same whether your team is two or two hundred. It's no surprise that Zugg isn't really willing to hire extra help.

It's a bit of a catch-22, anyway. If slow development is causing people to stop buying CMUD, spending more money on developing the product won't help profits.

The short answer, regardless, is that it's not going to happen.
