Connection Refused error - need port forward help |
Hi been trying for a while and searched topics but can't find what I need.
Basically any mud doesn't connect at all. Cant even telnet into anything.
I use a wireless router and my ip is dynamic whenever I connect.
Need help with router settings for Airlive WT-2000R.
As far as I can see I need to open for special applications in my port forwarding or I need to configure for Virtual server - not sure which one to use.
Windows Firewall is off.
For Special Applications it asks me for:
Trigger (which I don't know what it must be for telnet or mud's, eg. battle.net is 6112);
Trigger Type (which can be TCP, UDP or Both, not sure which one I need to use.eg. battle.net is both)
Incoming Ports (which I don't know what it must be for telnet or mud's, eg. battle.net is 6112)
Based on this information I tried making my settings the same only changeing Trigger and Incoming Ports both to 23 - this did not work.
Still says connection refused. (The only reason I know it is connection refused is because another mud gives me the error, zmud just keeps trying to reconnect.)
Virtual server settings I have no clue how that is supposed to work or if that's what I need to configure. |

You only need port forwarding when you intend for clients outside your network to be able to initiate connections to your computer. Since that's not what's happening here (you're initating the connection), port forwarding isn't the problem. More likely it's either a firewall issue (either a software firewall on your computer or a firmware firewall in your router) or that you're simply connecting to the wrong port on the server.
I myself couldn't connect to battle.net:6112, so I suspect the latter. |

Wndows Firewall is disabled and there is nothing blocked on the router firewall settings, ie nothing enabled.

I could be completely off base here, but it doesn't look like Battle.net supports MUDs at all. (Now I admit I only did a 30 second check) It seems it's more geared to online games for StarCraft, Diablo, WarCraft III and the like. As a matter of fact, a quick trip to their support page says as much.
I'm not sure what you trying to do with zMud, but it looks like you should be trying to connect directly from your game of choice. |

Man, Tech, we are silly. He was using battle.net as an example of an address with a port, not as an example of a MUD. I should've picked up on that, having played a lot of StarCraft and DotA.
The port that MUDs use varies from MUD to MUD. It'll normally tell you on its "Play Now" page what port you need to use. That should be all the info you need to forward your ports, but I don't think it'll help. Also, I really don't recommend forwarding any ports below 1024, especially if you have no software firewall - most MUDs let you use port 23, but they also let you use a higher port if you want as well. |

I got it working, Thanks for the help.
I had disabled Norton Internet Security on startup to get my pc booting faster.
Needed to run a full system scan so I enabled Norton on startup again, now with Norton enabled - it's working - go figure!!!! |
