CMUD v2.04 BETA and CMUDPro v2.04 BETA Released |
I have released the 2.04 BETA version of CMUD. I have also released the 2.04 BETA version of CMUDPro (CMUD with SSH support).
This version fixes many of the new bugs in v2.03. Please see the Version History for details on the bugs that were fixed. In particular, it should fix a lot of the thread problems and screen blanking problems that were making it hard for people to use previous versions.
As always, be sure to CREATE A NEW POST to report a bug in this version. Be sure to put the version number in your post subject, like [2.04] and be sure to mention what version of Windows you are using. Please give as much information about the bug as possible. The easier it is to reproduce, the quicker it will get fixed. If you get a crash, be sure and send the crash dump report so that I can collect as much information on crashes as possible.
CMUDPro is a completely separate download, and also has a separate license. It has it's own 30-day free trial. I am offering a good discount for a limited time for existing CMUD users. If you bought CMUD and want to upgrade to CMUD Pro, log into your store account at https://www.zuggsoft.com/store (If you forgot your password, use the Recover Password link on that page). Once you are logged in, simply add CMUDPro to your shopping cart. It should show a discount of $30 with a total price of $9.95.
You can also buy CMUDPro separately for $39.95 if you don't already have CMUD. The price of CMUDPro (and the upgrade) will increase when the public version is released. So take advantage of this discount while you can.
To Repeat: YOUR CMUD LICENSE WILL NOT WORK FOR CMUDPRO! You need a separate CMUD Pro license. The reason it's a separate product is to keep the price of the regular version of CMUD low for people who don't care about SSH support. SSH support is more of a business feature. Once CMUDPro SSH has been fully tested and the public version of CMUDPro is released, then I'll also release a business-oriented Telnet/SSH product called TeSSH that will be less expensive than CMUDPro but will strip out all of the MUD-related stuff (mapper, MUD list, speedwalking, etc).
In addition to the SSH Support, CMUDPro also enables the zMapper COM-based scripting plugin, even if you don't own zMapper. This allows you to view zMapper-enhanced maps within CMUDPro without zMapper, and allows you to use all of the COM-based scripting that is documented in the zMapper help file.
We are going to use the same forums for both CMUD and CMUDPro. So if you report a bug that is specific to the SSH part of CMUDPro, be sure and put CMUDPro in the subject of the post. |

Note that I still have some additional bugs to fix that are still present in v2.04, but the problems with the threading and screen output were serious enough that I felt we really needed 2.04 released as quickly as possible. Hopefully it will work much better than 2.03 and make it easier for you to use it in real MUD playing so that you can report any remaining problems that need to be fixed before the public release.

Just wondering, do previous purchasers of zMapper get the CMUD Pro upgrade free? I'm sure I saw that mentioned somewhere in an earlier topic (can't find the link). If not then no worries.

Hello.
I have the same question: Zugg was once writing the following:
" [...[ Mapper Improvements
There is a lot to be done here. One of the first tasks will be to better integrate the zMapper code into CMUD. It is very likely that "zMapper" will be replaced by "CMUD-Pro". In other words, players who have upgraded to CMUD-Pro will get the zMapper functionality integrated directly into CMUD [...]"
I was upgrading now to Cmud Pro (Beta). Inside the Map tool, there's a button to switch to zMapper (it it is installed).
But it is necessary now to purchase zMapper?
Inside CMUD Pro there's still not the functionality available, which I'd get with zMapper. I mean: to ajjust and change rooms designs, enhance map with room shapes, exit styles, icons and graphics to the map ...
So if I understand it right it will be like this in future (correct me if i'm wrong):
CMud Pro will get a new improved mapper on the basis of zMapper, but it will be 'inside' Cmud Pro. Right now the mapper is still the same as in CMud,
but for future releases of Cmud Pro, features like enhance map with room shapes, exit styles, icons and graphics to the map will be added.
So, will Cmud Pro get a better mapper in future releases (on the basis of zMapper) with more functionality as it is now in Cmud?
So, for Cmud-Pro users it makes no sense now to purchase zMapper as an extra programm, because these features will soon be made availabe in Cmud Pro?
That's right?
Thanks for the help!
Best Regards, Ciao

Of course Zugg, has the final answer but I don't think that's quite right.
CMUD-Pro is like having CMUD with the zMapper plugin. What that means you'll be able to see the enhanced maps and scripting API with CMUD Pro, even if you didn't have zMapper. The will be another tool, (lets call it cMapper) that will allow you to do advance editing and map design that you speak of.
So if you just want to see the enhanced maps or do advance scripting, then the CMUD Pro is for you. If you want to be able to do advanced map editing, for that you will need cMapper.
Now this is separate from the rewrite of the underlying mapper component that Zugg is planning. This will be an improvement to the mapper code that's in both CMUD and CMUD Pro. Among other things it will be a rewrite of for the new Delphi components Zugg is using (right now it's pretty much the old code hooked together) and updating to use a true SQL database instead of ADO. I'm sure Zugg has a few additional features planned for this as well, and then this development would probably dove tail in to the development of cMapper.
At any rate, if anyone has a better memory than me feel free to correct me. |

I'm really not sure if this is correct. It's possible that Zugg hasn't even set in stone how it's going to work yet - don't take this as gospel. Wait for his reply. |
