Need help with STORMFRONT support for v2.03

I posted this at the end of the XML Stream thread over in the main forum a couple of days ago, but didn't get any response.

I need help from someone who has some contacts at Simutronics or knows anyone who is involved with the StormFront protocol.

As discussed in the main forum, the Simutronics login protocol has an 'L' command. Normally CMUD sends an "L charname PLAY" command. But some people reported that for StormFront emulation, I needed to send an "L charname STORM" command instead (btw, those spaces are actually tabs).

However, when I use the "L charname STORM" command and then send the normal:

UserKey \n /FE:gslclient /VERSION:version /P:WIN32

to the server upon connection, the server just seems to hang. It's not obvious from the Wiki post at http://www.krakiipedia.org/wiki/SGE_protocol_saved_post exactly what should be sent to the server upon connection in STORM mode.

The above line works fine when using the normal "L charname PLAY" command. So if someone could find out what I'm supposed to send to the server in STORM mode, then I can fix this in CMUD.

Hey there, Zugg, this is GM Ildran from GemStone.

What you want to send is actually

UserKey \n /FE:gslclient /VERSION:sfversion /P:WIN32 /XML

Note that StormFront sends "WIZARD" for gslclient, the same as the Wizard, but the engine will accept just about anything there. The current SF version is "1.0.1.22" (compared to "2.04" for the Wizard).

Let me know if you need anything else.

Looks like it closes the connection if I use /FE:zmud like I do with the PLAY option. Changing the gslclient to wizard or strormfront worked. It still looked like it was hung, but it just needed an extra CR after the connection for some reason.

Thanks for the help.

Interesting. It hasn't complained when I've used "ECLIPSEFE" or "ConsoleFE", perhaps it actually looks for zmud and disconnects because it doesn't think you understand XML.

Anyway, glad to help. Feel free to e-mail me or have someone post on the GS4 boards in the future if you need anything else.
