Suggestion: desktop icons tied to sessions/layouts |
The current way that CMUD starts up (untitled window, then you open your session from a second session window), feels a bit clumsy. zMUD is better in that it only opens the session window from which you could pick your session.
Perhaps the old behavior could be restored?
But I had a better idea--allow for CMUD to make "session icons" on the desktop. Clicking one of these starts a new instance of CMUD (or maybe uses an existing instance by choice), and then opens the layout directly, with no blank window, and no session selector window. |

This was suggested a while back and I believe it is on Zugg long but shrinking to do list.

The new behavior of CMUD is not going to be changed. I know it feels different than zMUD, but it's the same behavior as most other software. For example, when you open Word or Excel it opens a blank document and then displays a dialog to let you load an existing document, etc. The CMUD method also allows you to easily click the main Prefs button in the toolbar to set stuff like Proxy settings without needing to create a duplicate Preferences in the Session window menu like zMUD had. It also makes the overall application design more standard for how Windows handles applications (in zMUD, the main application window was still there, but was "hidden", which could cause problems sometimes when switching apps, etc).
The "session icons" idea is already implemented. When the Session window is open in CMUD, just drag one of your session icons and drop it onto your desktop. It will create a CMUD icon on your desktop that will open the session directly, just like you wanted. It will always start a new instance. It does not share an existing instance because CMUD is designed to have multiple instances instead of sharing a single instance like zMUD did. |
