Font suggestion

I have an aging (and likely failing) CRT monitor, so I'm very picky about the fonts I use. I also greatly prefer using a monotype font (I would assume this would be true for most mudders). For folks seeking a very well designed, clean, and free font, check out: http://proggyfonts.com/. There are actually a few variations there, try them all (make sure you set Font Size to 12!)

As I do use a CRT still, I don't know how well these will translate to LCDs and those running ClearType. Consolas might be what you want - specifically designed for those using ClearType (and pretty bad if not!).

Fixedsys is still a worth standby, just wanted to point out the ProggyFonts - an excellent font for any text editor, and zmud/cmud as well.

A list of other (free) monotype fonts, if you think I'm off my rocker with the suggestion above: http://www.lowing.org/fonts/

*NOTE: This isn't a suggestion for Zugg to add into cmud, this is a suggestion to players looking for workable monospaced fonts for zmud/cmud.

As a commercially-available product, Zugg has to ensure he's not violating any EULAs and stuff that normal users don't really pay attention to. Last I heard, he wasn't able to include Consolas because of this.

Sorry, I wasn't suggesting any of the fonts above for inclusion directly in the product. This was just a suggestion for folks that were looking for something on their own. I realize that isn't clear from what I posted. This was a post to the users of cmud, not Zugg :)

There was a big discussion on fonts a while back and that's how Consolas even came up. You can get it with Visual Studio Express. A think after reviewing several, including some of the Proggy ones the general consensus was that Consolas was the one font to rule them all and with no ClearType blind them. Very Happy

Consolas is the font that I personally use here. Since Vista went public, are people allowed to distribute Consolas yet? I'll have to do some searching and see if Microsoft is still actively trying to stop sites from distributing this.

As far as I know, you still can't distribute it. Microsoft offers a font download pack, but it will only install if you are an owner of Visual Studio 2005 or better.

And shame on me for not finding the other font thread first. Doh.

I find Lucida Console to be an very readable font. The important thing is sans-serif, in my mind.
