[1.23] Cannot delete rooms in mapper |
Every so often, I go off course while mapping. Usually i can delete the rooms and links by right clicking and selecting delete. Sometimes though, no matter what I try, the room will not delete. No error or warning is given.
I know a new mapper is going to be written for CMud, but this is rather basic functionality, that people are going to expect when CMud goes public. |

This bothered me until a couple of upgrades ago and then it started working ok. Now with the latest upgrade it won't delete again - strange. The only way I can get rid of the room is to send it to a zone which I have called TRASH - I am now getting quite a few rooms in there!

It works fine for me here, so this isn't a widespread problem. And I know that some people might not be able to use CMUD with some of the mapper problems, but I can't delay the release of CMUD for everyone else just because of mapper issues that will get fixed when the mapper is rewritten in a couple of months.
There are two ways to delete rooms that you should try. You can right-click on a room and select Delete. You can left-click a room and then select Delete from the Edit menu.
In both of these cases, you need to make sure you are in MAP MODE and that your map is not locked. In Map Mode there is a lock icon that appears at the top of the left toolbar that can be used to lock and unlock a map. Also make sure that the map *.MDB database itself is not set as a Readonly file in Windows. |

The map is in map mode, and it can create new rooms just fine.
Neither of those methods delete the faulty rooms. In the end i ran zMapper on the map to remove the faulty rooms.
I bought zMud for the mapper; if CMud is released without a working mapper i can only consider it not of merchantable quality. |

eclpmb,
No problem, just wait until cMUD has the new mapper. Nobody is forcing you to buy it. |

Also, as I said, it works fine here and for many other people, so it's more likely a problem with your specific map file and not with CMUD.
But that's the entire reason why I'm rewriting the mapper for CMUD. The zMUD mapper uses Microsoft ADO/MDAC (MS Access 2000) database file formats, which are crappy and cause all sorts of problems because you might have a messed up ADO/MDAC DLL file on your system. I'm dumping the Microsoft MDAC stuff and will be using a normal SQL database for CMUD. This should get rid of all of the map database problems that have plagued zMUD and zMapper in the past.
But there is no way I'm going to hold up the release of CMUD for the 3-4 months that it will take to get the mapper rewritten. Many people don't care about the mapper, and many other people do not have any problems with the mapper at all.
So as bortaS said, you can just wait until CMUD has the new mapper. But you are just as likely to run into these problems in zMUD as you are in CMUD.
The only other thing you can try in CMUD is to make sure the map window is undocked and floating. When the mapper is floating, then the docking system shouldn't be able to interfere with the menus and then it might work better. When the mapper is undocked in CMUD it should work exactly the same as the zMUD mapper. |

Undocking the mapper does allow rooms to be deleted again. That must be why this has never happened in zMud

OK, thanks for letting me know. As I said, it works fine when docked here, so it must be something specific about your exact window layout. But it's good to know it's related to the docking system and not some wierd problem in the mapper itself.
I'll be sure to pass this information on to anyone else having trouble deleting rooms. |

I'm a lot happier now, at least i can use CMud for what I bought it for - the mapping. Even in beta, CMud is more resonsive then ZMud (which i bought several years back and loved using ), which is why this was really frustrating when it stopped me using CMud.
As to the window layout - i've done nothing fancy. Click on the map button, resize the split, and off i map. Also this has happened on several clean installs (including a full wipe and reinstall of windows) |
