[1.13] Command line losing focus?

Hi,

I fired up CMUD last night and had trouble with the command line. I assume that the command line was losing focus. Specifically, I would be typing along when characters would suddenly stop showing up where I was typing, and I would get beeps for each key I pressed. Sorry - not a great description but I think it gets the idea across. To get focus back, I would have to click inside the command line area with the mouse and continue typing. Focus seemed to be lost each time my input was line-wrapped, and also at mysteriously random other times in the middle of a line.

Needless to say, it's tough to talk or kill efficiently with these sorts of interruptions! Smile

I tried (a little) playing with a few of the preference settings related to the command line, but did't find anything that made a difference. I confess, shortly thereafter I went back to ZMUD so I could go kill some mud critters!

Anyone else seen this? Or is there a setting I missed, and I'm being stupid?

Do you have any other child windows open (like capture windows or anything like that)? It sounds like you have some sort of alarm or script running in the background that might be doing something to effect the command line. Or, did you have the settings editor open, or the fly-out settings open? I'll need more information to track this down because it doesn't happen to me.

Just a note, the Ding! client from Southwest Airlines likes to pull focus from zMud as well. Not sure about CMud. My wife and I had a heck of a time figuring that one out.

I apologize for the lack of info - I know it can be quite difficult to track down bugs with so little info. I figured it was probably a setting I had blindly passed over.

I will attempt to reproduce and make a concerted effort to determine what affects the behavior.

Thanks!

Oops - just saw the post from slicertool. Good point... I hadn't thought about other cruft interfering. I will look at that scenario as well.

I floundered around a little more last night. At a high level, I tried to set up a session to a mud I play, and point CMUD at my vast trove of existing maps and settings. CMUD seemed to import my maps, aliases, etc. just fine. I then created another session for a second character on the same mud. I double-checked that I had no other apps running, shut off A/V, etc.

When I fired up CMUD last night, the focus issue seemed to have gotten worse - now I could only type one character before I had to mouse-click in the command-line to regain focus. I started messing with having various windows open, closed, minimized, etc. At one point, I right-clicked on the menu-button area, and saw two "checkable" items on the menu - each corresponding to one of my characters, and each checked "on". (I forgot to bring in my paper where I wrote down the exact string on the menu item, and I should have just posted this from home last night... Embarassed) Now, I believe I only had one session open/active, but nevertheless the "Session: command-line for <char 1>" menu item was there for both characters. I started playing with checking them on and off, and a second command-line appeared docked above my floating telnet window. I could see both command lines rapidly flickering with what appeared to be screen updates. I unchecked both items, then right-clicked on the telnet window to turn on the command line there, and it worked just fine. Now I am unable to reproduce the focus problem.

Any of that useful, or hint at a likely explanation?

I guess I've cemented my reputation for being vague and can pretty much rule out a job in QA eh?
