[1.09] CMUD Help has Always On Top set |
While this may not be considered a bug, it is extremely irritating for me. I just hate Help files that have Always on Top behaviour (which unfortunately seems to be all the new style Microsoft Help files when they are launched from within a program). Anyway, CMUD doesn't use the MS standard, so it should be customizable.
It would be nice to have an option in preferences as to whether you want the help screen to exhibit Always on Top behaviour. Personally I don't, because with it on, if I maximise the CMUD Help, I can't get back to CMUD without minimizing it again or closing it. And if I'm playing and want to check the MUD output, I don't want to close the Help necessarrily. And minimizing takes longer than Alt-Tab (which is what I used to do on zMUD). |

You can already change this. When the help file is visible, click the system menu (the cmud icon in the upper-left corner of the window). In that menu you will see a "stay on top" option. Unselect this. It will save this option in your CMUD.INI file. Most all of the CMUD windows work like this.

Ah, thanks. I'm not used to non-standard Window manipulation things being in that menu and I never normally use it. Are you able to put the Pin icon on the top of the Help window? That would be a lot more obvious than this menu.

You can put buttons in the caption bar for stuff like StayOnTop by using a different theme. It's the theme that determines how the caption and other elements of a window look. If you select the "Luna Blue" theme for example, you see buttons added to the caption for rollup/down and hide to system tray.
I'll eventually put together a default theme that has a stay-on-top button. I don't think the normal WindowsXP msstyles format supports this kind of stuff, but the 3rd party KSDN theme files support it via the theme editor that is over in the zApp download area.
So, because each person might be using a different theme, I also added these various options to the system menu so that there would always be a standard place to find them regardless of theme.
I believe this is the proper way to handle these kind of options that Windows doesn't support internally. The zMUD method of "forcing" a stay-on-top button regardless of your theme setting was a bad idea and could look really ugly on some systems. |
