How to import (auto-convert) *.mud files? |
If one installs CMUD into one zMUD folder, it (or at least it did in prior versions) automatically imports and converts your *.mud files.
But if one installs CMUD into a new folder, how do we go about this process? N.B. I have already run CMUD for the first time, but don't mind losing any settings created so far.
I have tried opening the .mud file in the settings editor, and it does do some importing, but it doesn't save the results to my pkg file and anyway, I can only see the Class folders from my mud file - I can't click on any of them or see any settings in any of them. (I'll send feedback on this issue.) |

Try dropping your *.mud file into your cmud session folder. Then tell that session to point to the *.mud file. This will cause Cmud to do all of the conversions when you open that session. When you close that session Cmud will convert it to a pkg file for you and the next time you open that session it will be a *.pkg file.
There are still bugs with this, especially with the new settings editor changes in 1.06. Things that are not bugs but that you will need to fix your self include replacing & with &&. |

Thanks I should have tried that - I tried just putting it into the right folder but didn't set to to the default session package. I guess I was tired and also thinking it would be good if there was an answer to this question in the forums. Zugg should probably make a sticky or add to the existing one.
BTW, in v1.06, I have noticed that the class folders and the triggers I had made and put into these custom class folders under the System|AutoMapperAll class folder in zMUD have all been imported into the root of the System folder. So this is a small import error, particularly as the triggers are now not in their class folders but in the root. |

Seb, this is because of the changes in the Default Settings. The mapper is going to change and will be using just AutoMapperAll instead of System/AutoMapperAll. It was a mistake for zMUD to put stuff in System/AutoMapperAll since, like with the AutoLog class, the AutoMapper and AutoMapperAll folders really need to reside in the character settings and not in the global default settings. Now sure how I'll handle import issues like this yet, but it's on the to-do list.
Also, in a future version of cMUD, it will handle copying over files from zMUD more automatically either during the installation or the first time your run CMUD. This is part of the improvements I'll be making when I decide how to properly handle the installation and where all of the CMUD files should go. There was a thread talking about this, and it's something I won't be implementing for a couple more versions. |

I certainly agree with this. Or at least, as you say, not in the global default settings. |
