Resizing Window upon Startup

Cosmetic: Upon starting CMud, I resized the main window and the sessions window vanished. Repeated the behavior.

Also notices that any click outside the session window upon startup behaved similiarly.

Now, repeating the action a third time, I first moved the sessions window before resizing the main window and it didn't vanish.

I tried several combinations of placing the sessions window outside the main, overlapping the main, or just moving it withing the confines of the main window (on top) and it never vanished. It only vanishes on at that moment on startup.

Perhaps I'll get flamed for reporting a cosmetic odditity, but a first time user might not specifically know to press the sessions button to bring that window back if they fumble around and click outside the session window or resize their main window to recover geography needed to view...oh, work stuff, nudie pictures, or desktop buttons.

I'm only mentioning it because I know the first 10 minutes with a piece of software can be critical in forming the buy or not buy decision. If a few of those first few minutes are spent pressing the help button to recover to a point of "how do I create a character?" An opportunity to leverage the first impression with the auto-up sessions window is lost.

BTW, it's looking lovely. I'll be testing it with Gemstone in the next couple of weeks. Since they are no longer rabidly protecting the GSL protocol codes and have published them at play.net...perhaps we can work with them more transparently in CMud.

Just my first two cents...

Cheers,

Rich Wermske

Yep, I've seen this too. Somehow the stay-on-top flag isn't getting set in Windows properly when the session window is first displayed. It's on the bug list.

Interesting comment on the GSL codes. zMUD/CMUD implements most of the GSL codes already. Have you read the article on using zMUD with Simutronics games? It's in the Support/zMUD Support section at the top of the web site. You need to give a special syntax in the Hostname field to activate the built-in Simutronics support. This also activates the GSL parsing. But if you have a link to their GSL code list, feel free to post it and I'll see if they've added anything new that CMUD should implement.

This specific post provides more detail than was previously sanctioned for public consumption:

http://www.play.net/forums/messages.asp?forum=102&category=3&topic=2&message=490

While probably not as comprehensive as the material you received under NDA, there is potential that you may be able inquire if you can incorporate and/or publish material that you previously could not.

Further in the thread, Simu blessed the posting and acknowledged that they have been interested in publishing the full details but have not taken the time yet to do so.

<speculation>I believe their position is now tempered by the fact that the protocol has been reverse engineered enough to exceed the business cost and loss of goodwill associated with continuing to protect it.</speculation>

The document that you directed me to was helpful but didn't connect all the dots I needed. I suspect the fault there is between my keyboard and chair.

I was hoping that support for GSL would continue in CMUD and so I'm thrilled to hear that you intend to keep (or potentially expand if possible) the GSL support. Business wise, since the other front-ends (Stormfront and Wizard) arn't receiving any love, you might be able to captialize on an exceptionally determined audience.

One private third-party (closed source) add-on to Stormfront and Wizard is PsiNet. And it enables out-of-band chat as well as barbaric (relative to zMud) parsing/scripting enhancements. I see this as another potential one-upmanship opportunity.

Just my two (quickly devaluing) cents...

I'll keep in touch as I explore further. If history is any guide, I need not be too surprised that you are already one step ahead of me. :)

p.s. As an after thought, they may be willing to work a deal and pay for an icon on your session startup since their membership and revenue has been falling.

Aside from the greater selection of tags that GS has over DR, everything on that list that exists in DR is fully supported by ZMud/CMud. Whatever doesn't appear in the GSL Preferences list can easily be scripted for using GSL triggers. Note that not all codes appear or behave the same in all modes. GSB, for example, appears only in WIZARD mode while the extended MXP-type stuff found in the GSw00008 tag only appears in the BROWSER_FE mode.

DR does not have:

C
D
GC
V
X
Y
Z
a
b
g
n (not sure about this one)
r
t

did you put GS3 or GS4 in the address? I believe it should be GS3 from what I've heard on here(haven't played gemstone in 10 years). Simu needs to add more GSL tags to match what stormfront gets, but they suck so oh well.
