About Double-Bytes Characters |
It's really a pity that cMUD still does not support Double-Bytes Characters well enough.
The display of text received from the mud server seems good, but the display of text with #echo and #show command still has problems. Luckily, if I use "" to quote the text, the text display will show me the correct result.
However, a critical problem still exists, when I use Double-Bytes text in trigger pattern, the trigger won't fire if the pattern text has display problem above-mentioned. I don't know how to handle it untill now.
Finally, I have a question to Zugg.
Is it possible to solve Double-Bytes problem in cMUD because I know cMUD will never be UNICODE-based? If it is possible, will you try your best to solve it or just let it be? |

CMUD is a beta. Supporting Double-Byte characters is planned for the future, but is currently a low-priority issue. There are lots of other things that need to be fixed before I tackle this.
However, it should be possible to eventually support double-byte in CMUD. The problem with zMUD was that it used the Delphi 5 compiler, and Delphi 5 didn't have good Unicode support. CMUD uses Delphi 7 which *does* have Unicode support. There are some issues with some 3rd party components that are still used in CMUD, and this is where the hard detailed work will lie. But it should still be possible. Fixing this will also require some good beta testers since I don't have any way to really test it myself.
But I wouldn't expect to see this working in CMUD for several months. |

Sounds good.
I think there will be many cMUD users from Double-Byte world as long as the new release of cMUD will be workable for Double-Byte mud, and many test feedback should be received from those mudders also.
You know, zMUD is really the top one mud client in Doube-Bye world although it has problems in handling Double-Byte charaters. However, zMUD 4.62 is still a popular version in Double-Byte world because it don't have any problem in handling Double-Byte characters. |
