Access Violation on startup

I just installed the latest version of zMUD on a Windows XP computer. After the shareware reminder, and the splash screen, I get the following message

Quote:

Error: Access violation at 0x7C8024E5 (tried to write to 0x00EE0E38), program terminated.

I've uninstalled it and re-installed it twice, and I get the same error.

zMUD has a history of interfering with other progs in memory.
I had issues with various Direct3D apps and such.

try quitting one background app after another, trying to run zMUD everytime.
