zMUD crash |
Hi all,
First post on the forums because I am having a rather severe problem with zMUD I would hope someone might be able to help with.
Basically, I was writing a new class for mild automation within a MUD I play, and have had crashes ever since. I can't even log in to the system now to remove the new class, because it immediately shuts the program. zMUD does work fine for all other purposes.
I am using version 7.13b. Is there -any- way to edit this externally, so I can remove the offending code or at least insert a syntax error so I can get back in? |

Does this happen even when you open up another character and then use File|Open from the settings editor to open up the messed-up settings file? If not, open it that way and delete the offending class and start over (that's far more preferable than having to redo the entire file from scratch).
As far as externally editting the file, you may be able to do it with a program like notepad or wordpad. I dunno if that actually works, nor do I know if it would cause problems when saving, but I do believe it'd work out to be like editing an .EXE file (ie, mostly unintelligible garbage and lots of it). |

Well, I found a functional backup copy which wasn't too old. Editing the .mud file isn't entirely impossible, although it registered as a corrupted file when you try to open it. There was a bug in the settings itself which crashed anything trying to run it. Thank you, I'm just glad I figured it out!
