Can't connect to any mud

Hi guys,
Having a major issue here. I have purchased a new pc and zmud wont connect to any mud at all,just times out.
Now I tried to connect to wotmud via their applet and it says im behind a firewall or java config is broken.
This pc came with Norton which I have disabled,also tried with windows firewall disabled,still no joy.
Are there any other settings anywhere that would be preventing me from getting on to a mud?

I believe you have your Windows firewall on. You can turn it off, but I would not at all recommend going without a firewall.
