zMud fails to start |
Hi. I've upgraded to the new zmud and have followed all the advice given for those who can't get it to start. my service packs are updated, and i've gone to administrative tools, LicCtr is started and automatically running. Can you provide any other suggestions? (I am running windows XP by the way)

Does the splash screen display? What point does it fail at?
No splash screen? Ok, you say the service is started and running, try a reboot to make sure all is well.
No splash screen, service is definitely running perfectly, try checking the status of your licenses. It shouldn't really matter in that the dialog should pop up if they in a problem state, or the splash screen should pop if they are good; but eliminating the easy things to check first is best. This will also test the integrity of the eLicense service.
After you answer those I may be able to think of more trouble shooting items to try. |

Thanks for your response. No splash screen. When I click on the icon or try to run the new version from the command prompt, my cursor turns to an hourglass for a few moments, then returns to cursor. I've rebooted, and checked the system again, LicCtrl still says started and automatically running. License is good. Thank you in advance for any help you can give me from this point on.

If you don't get a splash screen, then it's a problem with your eLicense system somehow. You might try the new version that I just uploaded to see if the new compression program makes any difference. But it sounds like something is still blocking the eLicense service.
You might also try installing a fresh copy to a completely different directory on your computer in case there is something corrupted in your current zMUD directory. |

Thank you again. Though my licCtrl showed as started and running automatically, i don't believe it was, despite a few reboots and tries. What seemed to work was to actually just stop LicCtrl, try to open Zmud's new version, and then i got an error msg, 23 0. I thought that was a good sign so I turned licCtrl back on, and then tried to open Zmud again, this time it worked. there have been no troubles since then. Thank you both for your help

I will add that technique to the list of possible trouble shooting methods in the sticky topic. Thank you very much.
