Themes ... for the phpBB system |
From the list of demo themes: http://www.phpbb.com/styles/demo.php
Top 5 I vote for:
1) Cobalt 2.0 ... perhaps a bit hard on screen real estate but looks very good.
2) SoftBlue... nice and blue, need to reduce the size of the header a bit, but the actual forums and folders look very nice.
3) ezHyperShadow ... looks nice with the dark gradients and stuff.
4) Chairs ... good 3desque look, though the colour could be better.
5) Aqua ... nice clean lines and colours.
And one which I wouldn't use but looks cute is noteBored. |

I'll take a look at those. When evaluating themes, keep in mind that all of the graphics and logos on this site are intended for "lite" backgrounds (white, light blue, silver, etc). I will not be installing any "black" or dark background themes because I'd have to create a whole new set of graphics for it.
I agree on noteBored...cute idea, but not appropriate for this site.
My list is still too long to post yet, so I need to get it down to a "top 10" list. But it already has a few entries in common with your list. I'll post more later. |

Hmm, I reviewed your suggestions...I hate to be negative, but to be honest...
1) Cobalt 2.0 - as you said, too much screen space used. Too busy. Imagine this in the Home Portal page!
2) SoftBlue - not bad...might be *too* blue, but I'll try it
3) ezHyperShadow - yeah...way to dark. But you posted before I mentioned that I won't use dark themes.
4) Chairs - hmm, green? Not sure how this will look. Might try it.
5) Aqua - yeah, this was on my list and when I get better at doing themes I'll give it a try.
For now I'm going to stick with trying themes that just change the CSS sheet without getting too fancy. In other words, mostly color changes and not any icon or graphic changes.
Just to learn how this is done, I installed the "Classic" theme tonight. Give it a try in the theme selector on the Home page and let me know how it works. It's not too bad I think. |

Style doesn't change when the Change Now button is pressed.

Yes, I know, there seems to be a bug in the Theme selector. Refresh your page after clicking the "Change Now" button, or else go to your Profile and change your theme there.

Pity, Cobalt was my favourite, but SoftBlue was definately right up there :)
Maybe I'll use Cobalt on my mud forumz when I get around to installing them hehe :) |
