Changing default colors

Here's a weird one. Every once in a while, my default colors change to black on black. To fix it, all I have to do is open the Prefs and hit OK (don't have to change anything).

Question: is there a way to change the default colors from the command line or within a script that I might accidentally have going off? I assume it's some trigger, but without knowing what the command would look like, I don't know what to search for to remove this bug.

Extra info: every time the default colors change to black on black, the first string is a room name, and it's colored incorrectly. The room names in DR are recognized by a GSL code sent by the server, and is colored by zMUD according to the setting in Prefs -> Colors -> Color Schemes. I have this color still as the default of high white. When this error occurs, the first instance of the room name is usually a dull orange or cyan color (though it changes instance to instance), and following room names are correctly colored in high white. All other triggers fire correctly, including #CO and #CW commands, but all the regular text is black on black (I can read it by highlighting).

Any suggestions?
