zmud giberish |
I'm having a really weird problem. Anytime I type the word, "join", in zmud as a command, the screen locks up for a few seconds, then the incoming information is displayed out of whack. I then have to relog onto my character to fix zmud's display. I need to use the word "join" to join freeforalls and such.
Here's a log of what it looks like:

At first I thought I had a bad alias or something, so I did a search using the search filter in zmud 7.05 and couldn't find the word "join" anywhere in my settings. Then just to further verify, I exported my settings into a txt file and opened it using microsoft notepad. I used the find feature in notepad and searched for "join" and it didn't find anything either. So, I have no idea what is causing this. I would greatly appreciate any help any of you may give.
Thanks,

In your settings editor somewhere make sure show inherited is checked and see if it is somewhere in the inherited settings also check your global settings file Settings->global settings and see if it is in either of those

I tried both of your ideas and still couldn't find anything with "join" in it. I even enabled the view invisible files option. I went through every single alias, trigger, variable, etc, and still couldn't find anything. Any more ideas?

1. Have you tried this with triggers disabled?
2. Have you tried checking the check box for "Show Triggers" in preferences?
3. Have you tried creating a new character to see if this problem continues?
4. With "Echo Commands" checked in preferences, If you type join<enter> while offline and then continue typing, do you notice the screen lock like you do while connected? |

1. Still locks up with triggers disabled.
2. No trigger is shown after I type join, it just freezes.
3. Still does the same thing even if I'm using a completely new template.
4. While offline it continues fine without locking up.
Just a note, it's not really locking up. The screen just quits displaying anything further, then about a minute later it may or may not start displaying the giberish. In either case I have to disconnect and reconnect to get the screen back to normal.
I logged on to the mud using their java client and it worked fine when I typed "join." So, I think it's gotta be something on my end. However, it still freezes up even when I go to settings/new and get a clean template. I did try some of my friend's settings and they all locked up too. I just don't know where to even begin to look or do to solve this problem.
Thanks again. |

One more thing....I have two hard drives and zmud was originally installed on the second (D:) drive. I redownloaded it just now and installed it on the C: drive too. I then opened the zmud on the C: drive, hoping it was unspoiled, and logged onto the mud and typed "join" and it did the freeze thing.

Okay, I figured with the settings and if I unclick the Mud Compression (MCCP) box, the mud mostly works fine. Colors seem to get messed up, but other then that nothing major, but I haven't tried to do anything particular spammy. I play Achaea, which is a pretty major mud, so I kind of doubt they have compression issues, but I'l going to contact them today. In the mean time has this happened to anyone else? And does anyone half a solution? By the way, I'm on a Pentium 4, 2.4 ghz, 512mb RAM with XP.
Thanks again |

nobody has any suggestions? Does anyone know if there's a way to reset all of zmud's settings? This is really becoming a huge problem. I've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling zmud. Is it possible I messed up the settings somehow and the registry keys recorded the settings, so each time I reinstall it uses those settings again? If that could be the case, is there anyway to just totally erase everything and start over? Or to hit some default button or type something that will put all the settings back to their default values?
Please, I need suggestions. No idea is too ridiculous!
Thanks again. |

Try creating a join alias that just sends 'join'. Maybe the parser will catch and short-circuit whatever is causing your problem.
#AL join {#SEND join} or
#AL join {~join}
Even though you don't see any settings which use 'join', might still want to move it to the top of the settings so it executes first. |

Yay! It worked. Thankyou so much. I wish I could figure out why it's doing it though, but oh well, at least there's a way around it. Much obliged!

Hey everyone, I figured out what the problem was. McAfee's Privacy Service was causing the freezing. Afer disabling it, everything works fine. Just wanted to post it here in case someone else encounters the same problem
Thanks to everyone for helping me! |
