trouble with automapper configuration

Hello All,
I'm new to Zmud and am relatively new to mudding. I started playing Ashavar's Legacy and thought I'd use the free trial for Zmud before deciding to purchase it. I'm using Windows XP Pro.

I played for a few days having trouble with the mapper seeing exits improperly. So I uninstalled Zmud and deleted the folder to get rid of any settings that I might have screwed up initially. I then updated to MDAC 2.8 and Jet 4.0 SP8 for Windows XP following the directions on the Zmud support pages.

I reinstalled Zmud and updated to version 7.04. After opening Zmud and starting the automapper I clicked the button for map creation mode which brought up the auto-configure utility. I clicked through this and everything appeared to work fine. I then hit the "L" key to look at the room again and the map queue now shows the "l" as being in queue. I can clear the queue by using the push pin to set my location on the map. After doing this I entered "n" to go north and it didn't map my new location and the "n" remained in queue.

I can however move and map my new location by using the reconfigure option.

Here is a sample of Ashavar's Legacy output:

You are on Castle Road. The road is fairly busy with people going
about their daily business. To the south is a large intersection with
White Tower Boulevard, where there is a streetsign that could provide
directions to nearby locations.

Any help for this newbie will be appreciated. Zmud seems like a powerful tool for mudding and I'd like to be able to learn to use it.
