Settings and multiple characters

I have noticed that having two different .mud files in a subdirectory causes major havok. The setting file technically loads (you can see all triggers aliases etc) but none of them work. Nothing. Sometimes it helps if you reload the .mud file, but at this point, not even that is working for me. Any help is greatly appreciated.
