Which file to backup?

I would like to make a backup of my layout and preferences, but I'm not sure which file I should copy. I know the aliases, triggers, etc. are all in the .mud file, but where are the layout and preferences stored?

Mud specific preferences are also in the .mud file. Layout is contained in the .lay file. For making backups it is best to copy the entire mud directory as this will pickup all those files plus maps, databases, and mapper configuration files. I also backup my chardb.mdb file so I won't have to recreate character connections.
