The short answer when using zMapper and creating a new map:
1. Click on the room icon in the left button bar (it's the square).
2. Click in the map window.
3. Click on the blue circle in the top toolbar.
4. Click Zone|Keyboard creation.
5. Press buttons on the numberpad to create and move to new rooms.

The long answer:
We don't know what the correct configuration is because we don't know what you're mapping. The configuration is dependent on the information you are trying to capture or create.

If you're using zMapper as a plugin for zMud, the help files for zMud detail how to configure the automapper/zMapper for generating maps from the game output as you walk around.

Finally, if you're using zMud and want help configuring the mapper to work with a specific game/mud, post to the zMud General Forum with two room examples and whatever prompt you may receive. Copy and paste the exact text you see as examples, because even a slight difference in text or formatting will require a different configuration.

Help|Tutorials also gives examples for creating maps in zMapper.
