Can not start zmud

Hi folks.

I am having a heck of a time with zmud after migrating to Windows XP. What I have done so far: First I installed zmud (6.62) and attempted to use the free trial. The main window comes up with the license button, free trial button, etc. When I clicked on free trial, there was a bit of activity, no on screen indicator that anything was happening but the program did not start. Then I recovered my license info and registered the application thinking that there was a problem with the demo version. The same thing happened. I unlicensed the program, uninstalled, restarted, downloaded version 6.16 installer from the downloads page and installed. Again, I saw the dialog box asking me to license the program or go with the free trial. I licensed the program again and clicked "Launch" but again, nothing happened. This time I went to the event logs and found this:

Faulting application zmud.exe, version 6.62.0.0, faulting module zmud.exe, version 6.62.0.0, fault address 0x00379bb0.

Again, this is a fresh install of zmud on a freshly imaged machine. Before the migration to XP, I was using Windows 2000. I can not imagine it to be a problem with the OS itself due to the fact that there are so few complaints regarding compatibility issues with XP in the forums. I also managed to dig up a backup I have of zmud when I was running version 6.55. I tried running this without licensing it and the same thing happens.

Faulting application zmud.exe, version 6.55.0.1, faulting module zmud.exe, version 6.55.0.1, fault address 0x00372104.

Here again, a sample from version 6.16

Faulting application zmud.exe, version 6.16.0.0, faulting module zmud.exe, version 6.16.0.0, fault address 0x002bbc1c.

I have gone over the local machine policies, specific user policies; firewall configuration, sec templates and can find nothing that would prevent the application from running. I have a screenshot of the program terminating in the processes list with dr watson running just after it. Unfortunately, I do not seem to have access to the dump file that dr watson generates. The machine is a dell latitude 640 running winXP SP1. If you require any further system information to help, please ask either here or via email. I have had no problems, what so ever, running any other application on this machine. Any and all constructive assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Check your Services (I assume since you did all that stuff with policies, etc that you know how to get there). You need to ensure that the LicCtl service is started and active. If so, something else is scrambling ZMud's bits and bytes; if not, that's your culprit and ZMud should work fine once you activate the service.

If you don't know how to get there, right-click on My Computer, click on Manage..., open up the Applications and Services tree branch, click on the Services branch that then appears, and finally scroll down the list on the right until you find the LicCtl service.
