KindTbl Error - Still a problem!!!!

I really need help on this - and so far nothing has worked.

Whenever I try to open my other maps, I get a 'KindTbl' error - says the database is closed. Please Help! It worked last week with no problems.

I was told to "Go to the http://www.zuggsoft.com/data page and download the database Compact and Repair tool from Microsoft listed there. Then run this tool and repair your *.MDB map database and see if that helps."

Downloaded and ran the program on one of my maps - and tried to open it - I noted that the file is much much smaller - so it seems to have worked. But I still get the following error message: "KindTbl: Cannot perform this operation on a closed dataset." The only way I can get rid of the error message is to Ctrl/Alt/Delete and shut Zmud down that way. I can still open the maps using ZMapper.

Please - help! I don't understand why it's telling me it's a closed dataset when I haven't done anything... and why I can still access the maps with Zmapper. I bought Zmud because of the slick map-as-you-go feature and am really bummed I can no longer use it! Sad

This can happen if you installed zMapper after zMUD and installed zMapper into it's own directory. Both zMUD and zMapper ship with a program called ZSCONVERT.EXE. The file in zMapper is obviously much older than the file that comes with zMUD. When you install zMapper into the same directory as zMUD, the installer is smart enough not to overwrite the newer version with an older version. But when you install zMapper to its own directory, you get an older version on your system.

Now, when zMUD tries to convert your maps, it just asks Windows to call ZSCONVERT. Windows might be running the older version instead of the newer version in the zMUD directory.

So, try running the ZSCONVERT program in the zMUD directory manually to reconvert your old map files into the new database format.

zMUD added some fields to the KindTbl that zMapper doesn't use yet. So, if the map was created by zMapper or converted using the zsconvert that comes with zMapper, the KindTbl won't have the extra fields needed by zMUD.

zMUD tries to detect older versions of database files and update them, but it seems like it's missing this change in the KindTbl conversion for some reason.

The "dataset is closed" message is one of those unfortunate Windows generic error messages. What is really happening is that opening the KindTbl is causing an error because of the missing fields, so the table doesn't get opened. Then, since the table isn't open, when zMUD tries to read something from the database, Windows complains that the "database is dataset", meaning the table is closed.

Just installed the new Beta of ZMud - and I still get the error when trying to load the map .... BUT! if I just keep hitting the OK button the error window eventually clears and the map will load. Ah - bliss! I have my maps again!
