Question regarding "Route"

I am using the lastest 3.33a version of AC Explorer Pro. (Just purchased).

I am running ACX server on my desktop. AC Explorer Pro on my laptop.

On the laptop I linked the "Update terrain..." and "Update map..." to my desktop's cell.dat where I run AC. I checked map coverage for the area involved in my problem and it isn't pink.

When I generate a route to a destion on ML Plateau, I get directed to climb the cliff. Can't actually do that!

For example from "Isle of Teers Mansion (25.6N,54.2E)" to "Lair of the Eviserators (53.7N,76.7W)" the last routing info generated is
"Run from (56N,75.1W) to (53.7N,76.6W) 3.28km"

This has you climbing the cliff. An impossible task.

Any help or suggestions?

AC Explorer isn't perfect about the "cliff" problem. Sometimes it will think you can climb a cliff, and sometimes it will refuse to even when it's possible. This is because of the 3D nature of the terrain...sometimes it is possible to climb up a "ridge" between two of the terrain triangles.

The resolution of the AC Explorer terrain isn't as fine as the actual game data. AC Explorer samples the terrain at 1/4 the resolution. It does this to allow the algorithm to run in a reasonable amount of time. I'm playing with a full resolution algorithm of a different kind in zExplorer, but in AC Explorer doing full resolution would take something like 256 times the current time needed to find a path, which was not acceptible.

On top of this, we know that the guys at Turbine actually use AC Explorer themselves, and they just *love* to place new locations in areas that AC Explorer has trouble with.

What you can do to avoid this particular situation is to go into the Edit tab and open a new Detailed map file. Then create a region over the part of the cliff that it is trying to run through. When you create a blocking region like this, that will direct the algorithm to look somewhere else for a path.

As you suggested, I created a region. I added points to this region it now looks like a triangle. When I use "route" it runs me right through the region. I must be missing something.

What should I do with the "enable" checkbox? What does it enable?

What should I do with the Dest or Levels fields? The "block" field looks interesting, but it is simply a number. What goes there?

Sorry, I forgot about that detail: You need to un-check the Enable field in order to "Disable walking" through that spot.
