problems with mapper... |
is version 6.62 mapper totally broken and buggy?
it's SLOW as heaven and it doesnt seem to get anything correctly?
ok, first it doesnt get even configures correctly ... I give it dir, it gets from mud:
I give it dir "north" and 5 seconds as default and mud gives him:
--- start ---
!# CW>north
The Hedge
A high hedge, a common form of fencing for both Men and Hobbits rises here.
Beyond it, a deep ditch has been dug, helping to protect the innocent citizens
of Bree from some of the less benevolent creatures that stalk the plains. The
Hill rises off to the south east, though a nicely built bright round blue
door is built into the eastern flank, obviously a Hobbit hole.
A man passes by, intent on his business.
Exits: (east), south.
!# CW>
--- end ---
now I select that I want all 3 components (name, desc and exits) and it tells me that it gets as mud output:
--- start ---

where did the first line with room name disappear???? it constantly happens to me - I have tried it like 10 times with different rooms again and again and the result is still same... :(
wrote to Zugg about it and he told me to try out the offline configuration ... I did it and it finally GOT the roomname there... but now on mapping it still doesnt work!! one example what it did with this configuration:
a bit bigger piece of mud's output:
--- start ---
!# CW>
Maugrin narrates 'how darkies still out there?'
!# CW>west
Path to the Tower
The path winds its way to the top of the hill, and lining it are grey
stones. To your west and south, you can see the sprawling villages of
Bree, abuzz with people. At the top of the hill, east of here, there
stands a tower, contrasting sharply with the surrounding sky.
Exits: east, west.
!# CW>
--- end ---
and now what the damn zmud mapper got:
room name: !# CW>
room description:
--- start ---

and exits it got right at least! WHAT THE HELL is wrong with it? it did start capturing the room name and stuff even BEFORE the direction was sent to mud??? the whole 1 room mapping froze zmud for like 3 seconds and it still didnt get it right?
well the automapping didnt work in my previous version 6.16 eighter for same reasons (ignoring first line sent to it after direction command) but at least it did it FAST (and wrong) not SLOW and WRONG it does it right now. and in previous version I at least could MAP it manually by adding rooms one by one and drawing links between them and copy pasting room names and descriptions to editor but in 6.62 it SO GODDAMN SLOW even just adding 1 direction I just have the feeling of deleting 6.62 and return to old 6.16.
have winXP, 512MB ram, MDAC 2.7 SP1, and 1.8+GHz CPU so dont tell me my computer is too slow for zmud ... maybe the thing cant handle my map with has about 20k rooms (200+ zones)?
btw and the follow mode works perfectly in old imported zones and rooms ... but now I made 3 new rooms manually with much pain and hatred as addition to one of old correctly working zones and in those 3 rooms I CANT EVEN WALK normally since it frozes every time I enter direction for like 4 seconds and then makes the move... speedwalking mode is FAST!
so what I am doing wrong? what wrong with zmud? can I get this working or do I have to just delete the new crap version and HOPE it gets better with some future version (I doupt)? |

Lets starts at the beginning. Though I am loathe to ever reccommend anyone run anything but the latest version I must say a number of people running WinXP with larger maps have reported speed problems. These problems were never found during the beta cycle, because most of the heavy beta testers shunned XP due to bugs that were in the OS at that time. You can try the suggestions in this topic: http://www.zuggsoft.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=12197 to see how they affect the speed issue. Zugg has always stated that Zuggsoft is a customer driven company, so please add any new information you may find to that topic and hopefully Zugg will be able to piece together where the problem is and quash it during the next beta cycle.
Among the benefits of v6.62 is the help file is more cohesive, and occasionally a little more in depth. One of the areas that got a large amount of attention was the section on Configuring the Mapper. Since the AI used by the auto-configure wizard hasn't changed you will be able to use the suggestions I make here to fix the configuration in either version.
First the prompt does not fit what the AI looks for. In your particular case it would be best to use a #TRIGGER and #TAG the prompt.
[sp][sp]#TR {!# CW>} {#TAG prompt} "AutomapperAll" {verbatim}
Next because the AI's paragraph detection system actually looks for exits first then works out the paragraphs you will want to set some details about the exits into the mapper configuration. Check the Exitline contains key box, and enter Exits: into the Exitline Keyword field.
You can now run the auto-config wizard again and it should actually detect everything correctly. You may wish to add further #NOMAP triggers, but they should not be required. |

I would actually love to receive the 6.16 version to see if the problem replicates on my system (Win2K). I have yet to notice any slowdown with my maps, but then they are still much smaller then yours.

no matter what I do, it keeps ignoring the first line after the direction command. whats the problem? if I connect to some gateway server and it causes there some local echo it DOES work! but without this extra local echo line there it just refuses to work:
!# CW>south
south (<- local echo line created by gateway server)
Grand Hallway
The spacious hallway runs east to west. On the red velvet-covered walls you
notice some portraits of ancient elves, whose exploits during the first age
of Middle-earth are now legend; Fingolfin, high king of the Noldor elves,
Maedhros, the most famous son of Feanor, and Thingol Greycloak, Sinda king
of Doriath.
Boldor the Half-Elf, wielding a broadsword, is standing here.
Exits: north, east, south, west.
so my question would rather be:
How to make the first line count? (or how to make zmud NOT to ignore the first line after command?) |
