What the heck???? |
Why did I just have to renew my "ownership" of this Outstanding software?? I thought when I bought it, I would not have to do that. It DID go right through and it seems to be working fine(as usual). Please let me know if this is indeed a normal thing to have to periodicly have to do.
Thanks

Every 90 days you have to renew the license, this is done so that if your hard drive crashes/etc you can recover your license by waiting rather than buying a new copy.

It's almost what Rainchild said. You get 3 licenses. If you have a hard drive crash or otherwise reformat your system, it looses that license. You then have 2 left. The one that was lost due to the reformat will expire in 90 days, allowing you to reuse it again. So, if you reformat 3 times within 90 days, then you have to wait (or email us if you are polite) in order to get a new license. Without the 90 day auto-expire, any license lost due to a reformat would be lost forever, and then when you used up all 3 you'd have to buy more, which would be bad.
I should also say that while this feature was added for the above reason, it's also nice since I can use it to disable a license for someone that returns the product. For a while I had a rash of idiots who thought it was fun to buy the product and then tell their credit card company to reverse the charge, leaving them with a valid license, and actually *costing* me money because of the bank chargeback fees. Now when that happens, I can disable the license and when their 90 days expires, they can no longer use the program.
Anyway, when we added this, a vast majority of users felt that clicking 2 buttons to renew their reg code once every 90 days was worth the trouble to avoid losing licenses due to reformats.
(Probably more than you wanted to know, but oh well )
