Pasting highlighted text into a variable

I have a variable I set for the target of my attacks

#VAR target %1

The way I set this is to type 'x Bob' - which sets the Target variable to 'Bob'
This is fine with short names but when in group melees or fighting someone called 'Ashkemenirtorianon' Im usually going to be dead by the time Ive set or changed the variable.

What I need is to be able to highlight the name with the mouse and preferably with no more than 2 key strokes get it into the target variable.

Any suggestions appreciated.

You described it perfectly when you said two key strokes:
Highlight desired name then type the name of the alias and press CTRL-V.
