Rearranging Class Folders |
This is another problem I've had consistently in everything from 6.26 to 6.55a (and I'm using 6.40 right now) that's finally pissed me off. :-( I want to change the order of my class folders just like I can change the order of any other type of setting, but the Up/Down buttons do not work. (I do not have any Sort or Filter settings on... In fact, that's at its default and has never been touched, because it's a new settings file for a new character for a new installation I made just this afternoon.) I do not want to have to sit here and rename my folders, then create new ones, move the settings, and delete the renamed folders, just to get them in the right order.

Seems like you can't. Make a suggestion to Zugg and he may add it in a future version.

Is the format of the settings file public, so I could edit it myself? That would also help me when the thing gets corrupted, and would help me better deal with bugs (or simply things that I don't like for aesthetic reasons) in the settings editor. (Knowing the format of the settings file doesn't jepoardize (sp?) the copy-protection on zMUD itself, so I don't see why it wouldn't be available...)

I believe Zugg has said that the settings file is a binary memory image so you could in theory manipulate it directly. However, the settings file format often changes subtly between versions as Zugg implements new features. This is why they aren't backwards compatible and is also it may not be a good idea to edit it manually.

I have two things to say.
1) I found a solution that accounts for functionality, if not ease or aesthetics. If you go into the <none> folder and choose <all> classes in the drop-down box, you can reorder the settings independant of the class folders they're in.
2) Would it be a violation of the terms of service agreement to try to figure out the settings image format myself, if it is too much trouble to release it? I'm not going to make anything I'm going to put up as public software; I'm just talking about for personal use, unless Zugg would think it a cool thing for an independant Settings editor for the current Release version to exist. Anybody know? |
