Can't start zMUD |
Title says it all. I try to run zMUD, and it just shows that splash screen thing where it loads the plugins, etc, for about 1/100th of a second, then just exits out. This happens to me with both versions 6.16 and 6.40. I'm using xp for an os, but I've had it for a while and this just started happening today. Anyone able to help me?

Sounds like you disabled the LicCtrl service. This service is required to run zMud.

I don't see how I would have done that, but I suppose its possible. I also tried running the old v3.62 and that also didn't work, it said that it couldn't find the executable file [zmud.exe] or one of its components, so that makes me think that theres some sort of system file missing, although it only shows that in 3.62, not in the newer 6.16 and 6.40, but I think its doing that without doing that.
Is there a list that has all of the zmud system component files?

Umm, did you check the LicCtrl service? To do it, right-click on My Computer, select Manage, expand Services and Applications, and click on Services. Search the list for LicCtrl and make sure that it is running and not set to disabled.
If that doesn't solve it, do you have any problems with your sound card? Perhaps you don't have one installed, or your sound cards drivers no longer work?

If your running on XP, then the 3.62 arguement is kinda mute, as I don't believe the version on this site will run under Windows XP. It's a 16-bit version designed as such for Windows 3.x users.
Just thought I'd mention that.
Your issue is, as Katja and Vijilante mentioned, most likely due to the LicCtrl service.

Well, its working now... I copied some files that weren't there from my laptop which was working to my PC that wasn't, and its all set. I do seem to remember one of them might have been some sort of license thing, but I'm not sure. I don't even know how you could disable that stuff, but maybe it happened, but I usually don't fix stuff thats not broken :)
Anyways, its working and I'm happy again.
And maybe the 3.62 works if I switch compatibility modes for xp, tell it to run under 98 settings or something (it always worked fine for me in 98 at least)
