5 second delay (Highlands Mud)

Been playing highlands (216.136.9.5 8888)for 7 years, and downloaded 5.5 about 2 years ago. Just restarted playing.....and I get a 5 second lag from the time I press enter in zmud, to the mud actually registering my command. Weird thing is, when I go to a different MUD....everything works fine....no command lag at all. I've downloaded 6.4 and 6.53 and still the same lag. I'd appreciate any knowledge you guys have...:)

specs:
AMD 2200+
512 DDR RAM
Geforce4 128 MB Ti4200
conn: 56k dialup *duck* :)

Sounds like a router problem somewhere. Edit your character and use the ping button. If your seeing the same large delay you may want to use tracert to see exactly where the problem is. If the problem is at the mud's home system then email the admin of the mud and include the output from the tracert.

I ran both those tests this morning, and could find no problems with either of them.

Next testing step is to create a new character connection to that mud without changing any preferences or settings, login and just wander around a bit to see if the problem occurs. If it does not occur within a resonable test period then you have a problem in your original character settings for that mud. You should open that character in offline mode, export the settings, then import them into the new character. Again test to see if the problem recurrs. If it does then you will have to find the errant setting by disabling 1 class at a time and testing again, once you know which class you can reenable everything an disable specific settings within that class to find the exact problem.

still no go. I worked on it for 3 hours last night. I even tried logging onto another mud on the same server......the other mud worked perfectly, highlands still delayed. I created a new character and used completely different settings...still no go. I went through setting by setting...disabled...applied and still...no resolve.

I've been using the same ISP for 7 years.....this is really frustrating

After all that I would have to say it is a problem in the mud server code, and should be discussed with them. As with any thing that smacks of technical support the more precisely you can define the problem, and the more concisely you can describe the steps you have taken and tests you have done, the faster you will receive an answer or fix.

I am locking topic because there is nothing else to be said here.
