Getting started

I am trying to automap Ancient Anguish and nothing seems to work. I can get it to map a single room but nothing else. I have configured it, loaded the plugin, and have in the create map mode but when I mode in the mud nothing happens to the map. I know I am doing something dumb but zMud/zMapper does not seem intuitive to me and the documentation is less than adequate for me. Would some one please give me a hint to get started as I am getting tired of bang my head against the wall
