Go to the View/Locations menu in the main MUD window and tell me what location objects you have defined. Or just type the #LOC command on the command line and report the output results.

The configuration settings like Automatic step confirm are supposed to be saved within a *.INI file within the same directory as your map database, so somehow that isn't getting saved correctly. Configuration settings are stored to a *.ZFG file in the same directory. What directory is your map *.DBM file stored in on your computer? Is there an INI file in that same directory? Is there a *.ZFG file in that same directory? Do the modification dates on those files show that they are being updated? Do you have permission to write to that directory?

I just have one location, which is named after my character.

My map settings are stored in C:\Users\gamma\Documents\My Games\CMUD\Imperian . I have read/write privs on that directory. There's an INI and a ZFG file. The modification dates show that they're being updated, but opening them shows that they still have the wrong data. Again, some settings ARE getting saved, like the colour of the map, what to autoconnect, and so on. Also, the prompt that it keeps getting reset to is clearly based on my actual prompt, it's just slightly off so that it doesn't work 100% of the time.

Well, I'm still having this problem in 3.04 when I'm adding new rooms. Made sure all my config settings were correct. Have it set to center the map after movement, even have it set to update the map after every step. New room gets created but the mapper does not recenter, even after the new rooms are created off the edge. This then forces me to have to refresh the map for its dimensions to update and see the new room.

The odd thing is, while most changes I had to redo with the mapper config stuck when I exited and restarted, my speedwalk matching reverted back to matching room description even though I had changed it to match the room name.

Update: Odd, somehow I ended up with an extra location marker. It wasn't the current location at the time. Yet when I deleted the other location, the map started re-centering after creating new rooms.

Question: Is there a way to tell which .dbm file is the one loaded in the current session?

To see which .dbm file is loaded, go into the settings editor and click on the Map object. It will show you.

So now that you deleted the bad location object, is it working?

Matching the room description vs room name is stored in the *.INI or *.ZFG file for the mapper, which should have the same name and location as the *.DBM file. So check to see if the modification date on those files is updating. It might be related to your bad location object, but I couldn't reproduce any problem with it here.

And yes, if you previously had trouble with the map not scrolling/centering, be sure to do a Zone/Refresh to recompute the mapper bounds. The old versions did not compute the bounds properly.

Yeah, it started re-centering correctly when I deleted the extra location marker.

Digging up an old post because this is happening in 3.10a. I'm creating a map, and the map is going off past the edges. Following suggestions above, this is what I see when I type #LOC and #SAY %track:

Locations (* is current, - is disabled):
* charneus at room 45563 (blue) <fullmap Map>
? maps at room 0 (blue) <fullmap Map>

charneus

Not sure what that ? maps at room 0 (blue) is about... regardless, the map isn't centering at all. It seems limited by boundaries...

Do a Zone/Refresh command to reset a zone boundary. I am not seeing this problem on any of my maps.

The ? next to "maps" means that the "maps" location object doesn't have a proper pointer to a map location record. In CMUD, there is the "Location Object" that is part of your Settings (this is what #LOC is displaying, and is what is displayed in the Settings Editor). Then there are internal location objects within the map database itself that are created dynamically by the map database object. The ? means that the pointer between these two objects doesn't exist, which indicates a possibly corrupt location object.

I'd definitely delete the "maps" location object and then restart CMUD.

And don't forget the Zone/Refresh.

The "maps" location isn't able to be deleted. I've tried #UNLOC maps, and it returns 'Location maps not found.' yet it still shows up when I do #LOC.

I wound up moving the maps last night away from the boundary, so they got completed. However, I'll try a new map and do the zone/refresh bit you told me. I should have thought about that the first time, but it slipped my mind.

Any idea what to do for the first issue?

Go into the Settings Editor and in the View/Show menu turn on "Location" objects. Then try to delete the "maps" location object where ever it appears. Then restart CMUD and see if it is gone.

Odd... I did what you said, but no 'maps' location showed up, no matter where I looked. So I thought maybe restarting CMUD would work. No dice. It still shows up...

If you don't see the maps location in either your package editor or in the XML exports of such, it's an internal location and probably got fubared by a bad layout, toolbar, etc. I opted to go straight to the reinstall, however, so I dunno if mere file deletion will fix it for you (the reinstall definitely fixed things for me, however).

There has been a problem for several versions now where the "boundaries" aren't updated automatically when the map grows outside them.. Dragging rooms to the boundaries will update them, but long paths can go "off the edge of the map" and will only be visible when you do a refresh..
Older versions would automatically update the boundaries as the map scrolled..

Moo: I am not seeing that here. When I am mapping an area and adding rooms to a map, the boundaries of my zone are getting updated properly just like always. It's possible that you have a zone that is messed up, so try using the Zone/Refresh command to fix the zone, and then see if it updates properly. If not, post a detailed step-by-step procedure for reproducing the problem.

Zugg, I frequently see this myself. When I make new rooms at the edge of the existing map boundary, it does not automatically expand the map boundary. Zone/Refresh fixes it, but only until I map close to the edge of the boundary again. This map was created under 3.10a, so it doesn't have any problems leftover from previous versions. I'll see if I can reproduce it in a new map.

I'm getting this behavior with a brand new map in 3.12 Pro. Here is the output of my #loc and #say %track:

Code:

Locations (* is current, - is disabled):
*  Airuk at room 485 (blue) <Aardwolf Map>
Airuk

Zone/Refresh will recenter it but while mapping I will just map right off the map window. Then Zone/Refresh again, etc.
