What has happened to my triggers.

I was trying to create a complex trigger and kept getting the message "error in trigger pattern" So I started to simplify and kept getting the message. Now I find even a new trigger with just * or for a perl expression .* are also causing errors. What the heck is happening. I need my triggers. I don't know if it makes a difference but the trigger is sitting in my inherited scripts. Help me please.

I don't know what the difference was but rebooting my entire system rather than just restarting zMUD was enough to fix this.
