Weekly CVS build posted

I've started uploading a weekly build of zApp (just the end-user version for now). You can find it in the zApp Download area.

This is a direct CVS build from an automatted script. Once a week or so I'll upload it to the web site and update the version info in the download area. The uploading to the web site is not automatted, so it might not happen consistently at the same time each week. I need to manually do the upload to make sure I don't accidentally upload something really bad.

You should treat the CVS build with great caution. This is not a tested version and will often have bugs or crashes. But it represents the latest version with all of the latest features for brave people to play with.

In this week's build I've got the Zeos database library (although the ADO dependance has not yet been fully removed either). This will probably be the last version that uses the old visual components. Next week's build should hopefully be using the new DevExpress components.

In this week's build I've also added the various database drivers to the installer. These are the local DLL files that you need to access various databases natively, such as the mysql.dll files. The installer includes several versions of the files for MySql, Postgresql, SQLite, and Firebird. As far as I can tell, these are freely redistributeable files. I'm still debating what files will be included in the public zApp releases. They add a fair amount to the download size and I'm not totally happy with that yet. I might eventually put the database drivers into a seperate download (maybe by next week).

Have fun!

Sorry, I wasn't going to bother you again so soon but I was thinking, have you considered using the Mozilla ActiveX control rather than the IE's (for example, for your eMobius app?)
http://www.iol.ie/~locka/mozilla/mozilla.htm

I played with it and it snaps right in place of IE's browser control. Of course, VBScript wouldn't work with it.

Just wanted to know your thoughts on it.

If it's an ActiveX control then it should work fine with zApp. Take a look at the DEMO.ZML file for an example of how to use *any* ActiveX control in zApp. You'll probably need to modify some of the properties or methods, but the idea should be the same. The IE ActiveX control isn't really a part of zApp. It's just a demo of how to use ActiveX controls.

The HTML render engine I'll be using in the eMobius email client will not be based upon either IE nor Mozilla. It will be a compiled object built into zApp that will handle *basic* HTML rendering (appropriate for email, but not for a web browser app).

Anyway, give it a try. I can't think of any reason why VBScript in zApp wouldn't be able to handle it.

Okay, Zugg, the deed is done! I demonstrated zApp to my wife and she gave me the go ahead to buy the end users and pro editions. I'll fiddle with it a bit this week but I'll put more effort into it next week.
