zmud dies on opening? (win '98)

Hi,

Apologies if this is the wrong forum for this. My trusted copy of zmud won't work for some reason, when I open it via the icon the 'splash' screen appears, then it minimises and won't appear (but it's a process on the taskbar).

Has anyone come across this and/or a fix? I'd be aver so grateful, I really don't want to have to hassle customer support for yet another licence number as I think that's now 4? times I've installed it over the years... :/

regards from England,
Nass

*My* Nass??!! :P

One thing that has always worked on strange window probems for me is to delete (or rename) the zMUD.INI file and restart zMUD.

You will have to accept the license agreement and delete the "Getting Started" stuff again but al of your characters and related files will still be there.

Hey, Nass. Good to see you.

If that doesn't work, try deleting default.mud. Although I don't believe zMUD loads the default profile until after you open a character, it might have something to do with it if zmud.ini doesn't work. If that doesn't work, then before you try reinstalling zMUD, use regedit to go to HKCU/Software/Zuggsoft/zMUD/Plugins and delete all of the keys for installed plugins. It's possible one of our plugins isn't being accessed properly (although I've never heard of this issue resulting from them). Once zMUD is back up and running, you can add them again.

hey, thanks guys, especially aennor - nuking the ini file got me the application back, albeit without the old 'profiles'. But hey at least it works again :).

As is said in my particular part of mud-dom, *dance*
