Chars:Record Not Found.

I am running Win XP and I upgraded to 6.62 from 6.40 on June 18/2003 and I never had any problems with 6.40 running on this computer.

After the upgrade down loaded and installed it launched the program. The madules loading window comes up and a split second later the error "Chars:Record Not Found" pops up.

I down loaded the 6.62 from the web page and tried to reinstall it over top and after I launched it I got the same error.

I uninstalled it, useing add/remove programs, and down loaded it again and after the launch I got the same error.

Any help or information would be great.

Move your chardb.mdb file out of the zMUD directory. Open up zMUD and let it recreate this file, then close it again. Move back your chardb.mdb file into the zMUD directory and open up zMUD again.

I just upgraded from 6.16 to 6.62 tonight, I am running 98 SE and have upgraded both the MDAC and the Jet engine as suggested. I am getting the same "chars:" error. I have removed my chardb.mdb file out and back in my zMUD directory ... zMUD did recreate the file but the error continued immediately after the procedure and when I moved my file back. I also tried removing my .ini file (and putting it back) and the same thing happened. I tried manually editting the .mdb file but it comes through as mostly garbage. The .mdb is too large for notepad and wordpad shows it as non readable characters. Does anyone have an idea as to the next steps? Any help would be appreciated.

After further reading and suggestions from this forum I have taken the following additional steps. I completely patched everything in my OS ... if microsoft offered it as part of windows update I installed it (short of not needing korean fonts). After that process I reinstalled the MDACs and the Jet engine. After all that I tried removing the Chardb.mdb, zmud.ini and my *.mud file to other directories and then back again. No dice. My screen hangs while showing the zMUD splash, the box shows initializing the main module. I dont want to report this as a bug if in fact I am missing something any ideas?

btw I also registered the software just fine.
