Winsock error

Downloaded and installed zMUD 6.40 and also DCOM95 and MDAC 2.5SP2, with an install and reboot following each download. zMUD started okay, but when I selected one of my characters and connected I got the following error in a popup dialog window:
zMUD

Error on loading Winsock 2 library (WS@_32.DLL). One of the library files needed to run this application cannot be found.

OK

I realize this is a missing Microsoft component, just wondered if anyone could tell me what file to look for and where?

I should add that this didn't prevent the character from logging on, and once I clicked the OK button to clear the error dialog I was able to play the character without any further problems.

This message basically means that Winsock 2.0 is not installed on your system. This is a Windows 95-only issue; anyone getting this error should go here and download it.

Edit: removed reference to MDAC 2.7 since it is not supported on Windows 95.

Zugg specifically said not to download anything after 2.5 for Windows95 users.
quote:
Download and install either MDAC 2.1x or MDAC 2.5x. Later versions of MDAC do not work on Windows 95. Follow the Microsoft instructions for installing and reboot your computer when you are done.

Thanks, I missed that and blithely assumed that the latest was the greatest for everything. :P

Looking at the supported configurations on the download site confirms that 2.7 is not supported on Windows 95. Previous post edited so as not to spread misinformation.
