Problem with charFiles/folders zmud v.6.16

I recently decided to upgrade my zmud I was currently using the completly free zmud but then I dicided that I wanted to see how much progress Zugg Soft has made with the upgrades. I have been a loyal customer for about 6 years now. And I have loved every version of Zmud that you have created. I must say I hope to someday work with you. after High school ofcourse though. anyway my problem is that When I upgraded to 6.16 and played it worked just fine for some time. Then I started having a problem. all today. I tried restarting my computer but that didn't affect how the zmud was acting. I got an error and ignored it the first time. cause I get them all the time through out my years of using zmud. This one was different I found this out. when I had closed my zmud and logged off, and gotten on latter I noticed that some of my mud info was gone, namily folders created with characters in them. I ignored it cause they are easy for me to get back, cause i keep all of my chars info written down. Then while I was playing. I had a phone call and since I work on a 1 phone-line house system my connect was lost. I got this error again. Ignored it cause I had to awnser the phone. when I went to open my zmud again all my chars were now gone. I believe that this is not suppose to happen that is why I have written this discussion report. I hope that you can help me to solve this problem. and I urge any readers out ther if they know of a way to stop this from happening it would be nice of you to help me. Once again I must say I admire all work on zmud and associated files from Zugg Software.

I cant quite understand your problem.

Do you mean you had zmud running, and connected, and answered the phone without closing zmud or logging off? Or what did you do exactly? And which error message do you get?

Just a hint, zMUD usually saves its settings when you close it, so if it gets killed somehow without closing properly, its possible that you lose some settings.

k castaway I have always picked up my phone with zmud still running. it never affect the old version. the error message is "Access violation at address 000102EA. Read at address FFFFFFFF." and yes I know that zmud save settings. every thing was lost that was in the folder the character files were in. well technically there not gone. just not accessible. I can see them when I do show all in the main window. but I cannot edit/connect/or do anything with them. I can't even delete them.

If you can't do anything with them, then you can't do anything with them.

When I had a similar problem, about a year and a half ago, I used "Show All" to bring up the hidden characters. I then right-clicked on one, and chose Copy. Then I turned off "Show All" and used right-click/Paste to put a copy back in the top level. Then I turned on "Show All", copied the second character, turned off "Show All", pasted it, and continued until I had all my characters copied to the top level. After that, I deleted all the folders and characters that were in folders and haven't used folders since.

Of course, if you can't do anything with the characters this won't work. If that's the case, it's probably easiest to delete the char.db file and start over.

As always, make backups before making changes. If you have backups (from your previous versions, for instance) this should be quick and easy to fix.
