Help on window panes? buggy

Can anyone help me out here Zmud Masters?

A while back I did this...
layout->autotiling
And ever since when I open a main character1
and then try to open char2 and char3
it will not autotile in stead it splits the
window between the 3...and if I logout the
character1...zmud will bugout and start
flipping between char2 and char3 and then
crash saying error hidden window error or
something like that...
what I wanted was to be able to flip between
the 3 windows like

/Char1| /Char2| /Char3| |
| |
| only char 1 data showing |
|__________________________|

And still be able to close char1 without
it bugging out...anyone had problems like
this and is there a solution...???
thanks

It seems that closing character 1 is causing a memory corruption. Just one of those bugs that never got caught in the beta proccess. There is nothing anyon can really do until the next public version.

Layout->autotiling just brings up a submenu with 5 different choices. If you don't like the looks of the one you've chosen, try another one. Tabbed might be what you're looking for.

For the "crash" problem, try changing the settings for Dockable and Lock Layout. If they are on turn them off. If they are off turn them on. Change one thing at a time and see if you can find a combination that works.

Make sure the Layout settings are the same for all three characters.

I don't know that any of this will help, but it's certainly worth trying.

Thanks for trying but Zmud is just buggy with window panes....from the first day
I selected in the windows panes menu
no matter what it bugs outs...
What happens is if I open zmud with CHAR1
and then I open with CHAR2....if I close
CHAR1 and leave CHAR2 open then try to open another CHAR1 it will error out....
Sometimes if you Have CHAR1 open and you just close CHAR2 and try to open another CHARX it will try opening another whole ZMUD.exe and error out...
I think this window pane needs to be seriously looked into as there is just some
inherit problems with selecting tabbed panes
or even saving layout...and other things associated with windowpanes...I hope the next release will fix these bugs cause it kinda sucks to have to reinstall zmud time and time again...just cause of windows pane...
I tried many combinations to get it to stop erroring and nothing solves it but a clean install and not even touching window pane options and keeping the default....
I never had this prob with zmud5.x but this is a prob in zmud6.16
oh well....

Hmm I haven't witnessed that to date. I run a screen like:

Tech|Radio____.Comsys________
. . .
. . .
.............................
Census|Damages|Nav|Tac_______
. .
. .
.............................
Mux1|Mux2|Mux3|Mud1|Mud2_____
. .
. .
.............................

With a pegged overlay window for contacts.

I have killed the main character (mux/mud) windows in all sorts of orders and
couldn't crash 6.16 win98se. I'll try tiling them when I get home and see if I can
reproduce

Tried all tile methods with 4 active windows in v6.16, locking the layouts, deleting the .dok file and repeat. I can't seem to reproduce your problem. All I can suggest is a fresh install and Lightbulb's change one thing and hope to bracket the issue somehow.

Only found a quirk when tested in the beta version with un'docked character windows and a tabbed docked character window. See beta forum.

Well I am not sure then cause heres what I run....

Win98 with Registered Zmud 6.16
I do a clean install.
Then I make a new character...
Then I make another new character
I login with CHAR1
-------|
.CHAR1 |
---------------------------------
.
,
,
---------------------------------

I then login with CHAR2

-------| |-------|
.CHAR1 | | CHAR2 |
----------------------------------
.
,CHAR1 SHOWING IN THIS WINDOW
----------------------------------

I then switch to CHAR2
I then switch back to CHAR1 and close it
---------
| CHAR2 |
----------------------------------
.
.CHAR2 now showing in this window
----------------------------------

I now open CHAR1
--------- ---------
| CHAR2 | | CHAR1 |
--------------------------------
.
.CHAR1 NOW SHOWING..
--------------------------------

I NOW close CHAR1 with the x in the upper
right corner....and it gives and error
message......

Ok now this is even worse....when I even
try to set tabbed windows or even mess
with window pane options it will complain
if I close char1 like this also saying
error hidden windows....

I am not sure why no one else is getting
this error and this is a clean install...
I also heard from several other zmud
users on the mud im at that they also
have had problems with window panes
I even posted the error it gave in my
top posts...zug have any info as to
the bug output its giving..cause i dont
think its win98 never had any problems with
max or minimize windows or anything in win98
I even run ultraedit which allows a similar
multiple paned option....

Sorry for the lengthy post just want to have
a copy of zmud I can use with mutiple
sessions open...since i did pay for it.
Thanks again for the help everyone.

UPDATE:
I been messing with zmud for several hours
and i have written down and kept track
it seems that zmud has a problem if you have
2 chars sessions open at same time and you
switch to char2(the second char you opened)
and then click that little x
it gives a bug message like I posted in
the above posts....
--------------------------------------
....................................x.
|------| |------|
| CHAR1| | CHAR2|
--------------------------------------
.
.CHAR2 screen showing here
______________________________________

Anyhow if I do a quit in CHAR2 it closes
it and resized CHAR1 WINDOW and no error
but I also think something is still buggy
in the save layout thing but will test
for that.....
Can anyone else try this out and thanks
for the help,....Zmud is great and worth
the money but I just want to be able to
really set my windows up and use them
to the fullest capability zmud has...
thanks everyone

UPDATE2

1. open char1
2. then open char2
3. then save char1layout with
setting tabbed windows
dockable not checked
4. then close char1
5 then reopen char1
6. then close char2
ERROR: cannot focus a disabled or invisible
window.

Any clues why...?

heres one thing to try. on the screen where you select your characters, highlight one of them, then click edit. Select the 'Files' tab, then uncheck the 'Use Layout' box. Do this for each character you want to load. Save the changes. Now, load the chars you want, click 'Layout' at the top, quick tiling, then select tabbed. That's what i've always done. No saving of layouts is necessary, at least for me. I have 3 characters logged at all times, and can add others at will, with each new char having a tab of its own. I close chars using save and quit, not the x in the upper right corner.

Doomfyre thanks for the help
unchecking for each char the uselayout
seems to work ok...I didnt mess with any
selction in panes though had zmud5.55
and upgraded to 6.16 and then uncheck
the uselayout for each char....
seems to not crash as much although
I still get an error and crash at times.
but much better...I hope this window pane
stuff is fixed in the next version...
thanks
